THE FOUNDATION CENTER, founded in 1956, is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy and is dedicated to serving grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public. Our organization’s mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. Our vision is a world enriched by the effective allocation of philanthropic resources, informed public discourse about philanthropy, and broad understanding of the contributions of nonprofit activity to civil society.

One vital component of the Foundation Center's mission is to offer free library services from our web site and our five offices located across the country: at our headquarters in New York, and in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Cleveland, and San Francisco.

OFFICE ASSISTANT – Washington, D.C. Office (P/T long-term temporary)

Reports to: Director, Washington, D.C. Office

Job summary: Responsible for general clerical work for the D.C. Library/Learning Center.

Responsibilities:

Library:
  • Reshelve/file library and office materials.
  • Assist with daily set-up of the library.
  • Assist with processing of incoming materials.
  • Answer phones and respond to basic questions.
Learning Center:
  • Perform data entry for class and listserv registrations.
  • Prepare conference room for weekly classes and other meetings.
  • Stock hand-out displays.
Administrative:
  • Assemble and prepare materials for regular and special mailings and e-mail blasts.
  • Handle mail: maintain postage machine, pick-up and distribute mail, prepare mailings.
  • Inventory sales items.
  • Photocopy materials for free and fee-based classes, library, lobby, subject files, library distributions, etc.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot business machines.
  • Monitor office supplies.
  • Assist with promotional activities – online and in the community.
  • Compile statistics.
Training:
  • Assist with program registration, logistics, and clean-up.
  • Assist with refreshments.
Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements: Must be detail-oriented, well-organized and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable using and maintaining standard business equipment. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills. Experience with applications in Microsoft Office.

Hours: Must be able to work 20 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
