Ellen Johnson, senior director of education for the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, will discuss how nonprofit arts organizations can manage their financial information, including audits and Forms 990. The session will focus on the importance of these documents to arts organizations and their funders. Josh Phillipson, program associate with the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, will provide a funder’s perspective.
Presenters:
Ellen Johnson serves as the senior director of education for Nonprofit University at the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. She holds a BA in education from Guilford College, an MBA in accounting from Kennesaw State University, and is a current PhD candidate in Organizational Management. Her experience includes 20 years in operations, finance, education, and leadership with both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. She has held positions of controller, director of management accounting, director of financial planning, and chief financial officer, with a focus on the design and implementation of effective financial and evaluation systems and the training of non-financial personnel. She is currently an adjunct professor at several universities and has developed, designed, implemented and taught online courses and programs at both the collegiate and corporate level. She is a sought-after board trainer and facilitator and has worked with the boards of many organizations, including most recently the Trumpet Awards, the National Cares Mentoring Group, Peach State Health Care, Keep Georgia Beautiful, and the Georgia Recycling Coalition.
Josh Phillipson serves as program associate for the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Josh manages the Arts Fund’s Nonprofit Toolbox program for management consulting awards and administers the financial grant program, handling awards to more than 70 arts organizations in the metro Atlanta area. He also manages communications for the Arts Fund program. Prior to joining the Community Foundation in 2003, Josh worked as the project and studio manager at Deepend and Tesser, both graphic design and advertising firms in San Francisco. He holds a degree in theater from Emory University.
