In January 2009 the Americans with Disabilities Act was strengthened by the passage of an extensive rewrite of the original law. These changes were made in response to numerous criticisms that the original intent of the law had been lost in the 19 years since its initial passage. What will this mean for arts councils, performing arts centers and other cultural organizations?

This session is designed to explain the original law and to discuss the changes that were made in January. It will explore the "why" of the ADA as well as some tried and true ways to help arts and cultural organizations deal with the "how" in their own spaces and programming.

The Fulton County Arts Council has been working with VSA Arts of Georgia for many years to explore how the county can continue to be leaders in the work of making the arts and culture open and inviting to underserved populations from all over Georgia. This workshop is step one for any organization or artist committed to ensuring that they are among the vanguard.

Presenter: Elizabeth Labbe-Webb, Executive Director of VSA Arts of Georgia

Elizabeth Labbe-Webb brings more than sixteen years of professional experience in the arts to her position as executive director at VSA Arts of Georgia. Elizabeth has had extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations in the areas of fundraising and development, board development, and grant development. In previous positions she has been responsible for curriculum design, marketing and promotions, program development, strategic plan development, and customer relationship management. Elizabeth has been involved in the formation of several nonprofit arts service groups, and she is an award-winning theatre director and costumer and a respected acting coach. She earned her BA in Theatre Arts from Kent State University, and she holds an MBA with a concentration in Marketing and Strategic Leadership from Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business.
