Financial Fitness: Good Financial Policies for Nonprofits

Nonprofits need to have good financial policies and procedures in place in order to satisfy funders, comply with IRS requirements, and avoid misuse of funds or even embezzlement. Attendees at this workshop will learn best practices for:
- Financial recordkeeping and reporting
- Investment policies
- Internal controls

Wendy Stewart
As Senior Vice President and Senior Client Manager at Bank of America, Wendy’s role is to work closely with her clients to understand their strategic direction, determine what needs exist, and bring the resources of Bank of America to clients to enable them to achieve their goals.
Wendy joined Bank of America’s predecessor, NationsBank, in 1996. She worked on both the consumer and commercial sides of the bank, working most recently as a Client Manager with for profit, middle market companies. She left Bank of America in 2000 to join the executive team of the YWCA of Greater Atlanta as Chief Operating Officer. Wendy was responsible for streamlining the functions of the organization, solidifying its financial position, and positioning the organization for ongoing growth. Wendy returned to Bank of America in 2007 in her current role. Wendy manages a unique portfolio of not for profit clients in Georgia and Alabama, with specific focus on not for profit organizations across several industries including health care, charitable and cultural organizations, health and human services organizations, institutions of Higher Education, independent schools, and religious organizations.
Wendy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Presbyterian College as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree. Wendy currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. She is actively involved with her church, and also volunteers frequently at her daughters’ school.
