The Rights & Wrongs of Doing Good:
Ethical Pitfalls and Dilemmas of Nonprofit Governance

Free

Elizabeth Kiss, president of Agnes Scott College, will speak on the topic of ethics in nonprofit governance, followed by a panel discussion featuring leading individuals in the public and private sector.

Nonprofit organizations promote important public goods. But we all know that good intentions and missions don’t protect nonprofits from ethical lapses. In fact, given their complex stakeholders, nonprofits face many right-wrong and right-right dilemmas, from conflicts of interest to tensions between competing legitimate interests and values. This session will examine some key ethical pitfalls and dilemmas of nonprofit governance and suggest steps nonprofit leaders can take to avoid or alleviate them.

Panelists:
  • Joe Arnold, SunTrust Bank
  • Edward Queen, Center for Ethics at Emory University
  • Mindy Wertheimer, School of Social Work at Georgia State University
