How to Use Research to Get Noticed by Funders

Atlanta

Learn how to use research to give your proposal an added advantage with potential funders.

Free
90 minutes

Join us for an informative workshop that introduces research methods that provide funders with a succinct snapshot of your program/organization in order to prevent funders from having to sift through 'fluff' in your grant proposals. In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to convert intangible or abstract concepts of your program into variables that can be measured and presented clearly to potential funders
  • How to create a logic model that provides an 'at a glance' perspective of your program or organization
  • Why research is critical to separate your organization from others competing for the same funding

Presenter: Melanie Sloan Edwards, President/CEO, Camel Consulting

Melanie earned her B.A. in Sociology with a concentration in social statistics from Wake Forest University, following which she received her M.A. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina–Charlotte with a concentration in applied research. She has spent the past 8½ years of her professional career with FourSquare Research, a market research firm that works strictly with nonprofit organizations. As Vice President of Research, Melanie is responsible for the statistical analysis and forecasting for all projects engaged in by the company. In addition to her career at FourSquare Research, Melanie Sloan Edwards operates Camel Consulting, a research firm that conducts independent program evaluations and needs assessments for nonprofit organizations.

Melanie has worked with a host of nonprofit organizations throughout her career. Melanie served as a Research Analyst for Communities In Schools, a nonprofit organization that provides educational resources and partnerships for at-risk students. She also served as Program Evaluator for the United Way of Central Carolinas where she designed evaluation models for various organizations supported by the United Way.
