Philanthropy Chat: Ron Mattocks Discusses the Zone of Insolvency
August 25, 2009
Ron Mattocks's timely book, Zone of Insolvency: How Nonprofits Avoid Hidden Liabilities and Build Financial Strength, explores how nonprofits find themselves in the "zone of insolvency," a period of financial distress between solvency and total insolvency. His recent conversation with Cynthia Bailie, the Foundation Center's director of special online initiatives, explores the reasons nonprofits experience periods of intense financial distress, sheds some light on the large number of nonprofits that are perpetually positioned in the "zone of insolvency," and outlines some options nonprofits have for reversing the situation, including how and when to consider dissolution.
