What is FC Stats?
FC Stats is a free online resource developed
by the Foundation Center's Research Department. It provides users
with ready access to a wealth of statistical data on U.S. private
and community foundations and their funding patterns. FC Stats
currently offers thousands of data tables available only
from the Foundation Center. These tables and ranked lists provide
the most frequently requested types of summary financial data
on foundations at the national, state, and major metropolitan-area
levels, as well as detailed data on funders and funding patterns
by subject area, type of support, population group, and geographic
focus. FC Stats is produced from the Center's research
database, the authoritative national statistical data source on
grantmaking foundations.
Who should use FC Stats?
This information is of value to nonprofit managers,
fundraising consultants, foundation executives and program staff,
researchers, national and regional policymakers, and the media—in
short, anyone seeking tailored information on trends in the foundation
field. Use these tables to prepare a report for your board,
research philanthropic giving in your region or overseas, identify
key funders and recipients in a specific area of giving, or learn
about the largest foundation grants ever reported.
How frequently is FC Stats updated?
FC Stats provides the latest summary
data available on grantmakers and their grants beginning with
1998 (selected data are available for 1997). Grants stats,
which track giving patterns, are updated in March. Grantmaker
stats, which track summary fiscal data, are updated in June.
Where can I find statistics not on this
site?
The FC Stats archive includes data tables beginning with 1998 (click on "Index of Tables").
If you are interested in obtaining an FC Stats table for
an earlier year, or if you are seeking more customized statistical
tables and lists, the Center can provide you with a customized
table designed according to your specifications. The fee for this
service varies depending on the data requested and the staff time
required. In general, the fee for custom
searches starts at $350. For more information about FC Stats

Restrictions on using the Foundation Center's
summary data:
Permission to use, copy, and/or distribute any FC
Stats document in whole or in part for internal purposes
without fee is granted provided that the copyright notice
and appropriate credit to the Foundation Center is included
in copies of all individual documents. All references to data
contained in FC Stats documents must also credit the
Foundation Center. All external dissemination or commercial
use of FC Stats documents requires prior written consent
from the Foundation Center. Requests for written consent should
