Key Facts on Bay Area Foundations
June 2011

Since 2000, foundations in the Bay Area reported faster growth in total giving and assets compared to California and U.S. foundations overall. These grantmakers awarded $3.1 billion in 2009, a 77% increase over 2000, and their assets rose 34% during the same ten years, despite a steep decline in 2008. Key Facts on Bay Area Foundations examines the assets and giving of 2,498 private and community foundations in the Bay Area and provides lists of top foundations and snapshot views of their giving patterns by major subject and support type.

Spotlight on Economic Development Grantmaking in Ohio
March 2011

There is a growing interest among large foundations in Ohio in supporting economic development activities in the state. According to Spotlight on Economic Development Grantmaking in Ohio, grant dollars in this category increased from $24.5 million in 2005 to $62 million in 2008, a 152% upswing. As a share of total giving in Ohio, economic development grants doubled, from 7 to 14 percent. In 2008, nearly half of these grant dollars supported employment training and services, and a quarter went for urban development projects.

Grantmaking to Communities of Color in Oregon
December 2010

This groundbreaking report uses the most comprehensive database ever assembled on Oregon foundation giving. It examines the extent to which grantmaking by Oregon's 779 foundations reached the state's communities of color in 2008, providing important baseline data about foundation giving in the context of the state's changing demographics. Grantmaking to Communities of Color in Oregon was prepared by the Foundation Center for GRANTMAKERS of Oregon and Southwest Washington, a regional association group.

Key Facts on Georgia Community Foundations

Georgia's 13 community foundations held assets of more than $1.1 billion in 2007 and gave over $104 million, according to Key Facts on Georgia Community Foundations, a report prepared by the Foundation Center and the Nonprofit Studies Program of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. Between 2002 and 2007, there was a 202 percent increase in new gifts into community foundations, indicating their growing popularity as a vehicle for giving.

Giving by Foundations in the National Capital Region: How Much Stays Local?
February 2009

Foundations in the Washington metropolitan area granted nearly $186 million in 2006 to locally-focused organizations in Greater Washington, according to this new report. This study — the first ever to examine locally-focused giving within a specific metropolitan area anywhere in the United States — analyzes the giving of 1,191 foundations based in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland, and northern Virginia to determine how much of their grantmaking was targeted to Greater Washington organizations with a predominantly local focus. The report also examines giving by the 26 largest foundations in the sample to identify the subject areas in which these grants were given.
