Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Foundation Center library or Cooperating Collection near me?

The Foundation Center operates libraries at five locations. These include its headquarters in New York City and its field offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Cleveland, and San Francisco. Center libraries provide access to a unique collection of materials on philanthropy and are open to the public free of charge. Professional reference librarians are on hand to instruct library users in how to research funding information using Center publications and other materials and resources. Free training sessions are also available at each of the five library locations.

The Center's more than 400 Cooperating Collections are located in public, academic, or special libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Cooperating Collections offer a core collection* of Center publications free to the public, and their staffs are trained to direct visitors to appropriate resources on funding information. Cooperating Collections offer free access to The Foundation Directory Online and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online.

Many Cooperating Collections also have directories and reports on local funders. Each offers their own orientations and other community workshops. It is advisable to call a Cooperating Collection in advance of a visit to verify holdings and hours of operation.
