Profile of the author, Philip Bernstein

Philip Bernstein was Executive Vice President of the Council of Jewish Federations for two decades. As a member of the Advisory Committee of the Commission on Private Philanthropy and Public Needs (the Filer Commission), Bernstein helped to map the broad field of U.S. nonprofit activity. He was the author of To Dwell in Unity, a history of Jewish federations, and numerous articles on the planning and financing of community organizations. This work was published posthumously in 1997.
