State and Local Foundation Directories:
A Bibliography

Compiled by Kayron Bearden

Did you know that directories of grantmakers are available for most individual states, and even some regions or cities? These books may be compiled and published by nonprofit organizations, public libraries, or for-profit publishers. Many are issued by the Center's Cooperating Collections. The scope and contents vary, depending on the interests of the publisher. For example, some limit their entries to private foundations, while others may include grantmaking public charities or even government grant programs. Many of the directories are also available in electronic form or on the Internet.
