Introduction to Corporate Giving
This course provides an introduction to both the world of corporate support for nonprofits and to the effective utilization of the Foundation Center's resources on corporate giving. This course is designed to help you: - Learn why companies give and why they might give to your nonprofit
- Understand what companies give and how they do it
- Determine whether your nonprofit organization is ready to seek corporate contributions
- Find corporate funders
- Learn how to approach a potential corporate supporter
A note on the economic crisis: The unstable global economy poses new challenges for nonprofits and for-profit companies alike. But in difficult economic times, strategic fundraising planning and diversifying funding streams are more important than ever in order for nonprofits to provide vitally needed services to their communities. Corporate giving, in turn, tends to focus strongly on the company's community: where the company operates and its employees and their families live. So finding an affinity based on community ties is especially important in times like these.
