What's in a Grant Record?
The content of grant records varies based on the availability of information from Form 990-PF, foundation
annual reports and grants lists received electronically from the grantmakers themselves.
Grant records include the full name of the recipient organization, the city and state (or country) of
the recipient, as well as the name and state location of the grantmaker who awarded the grant.
Grant records also include the grantmaker's stated geographic preferences for giving (i.e. national, international).
Recipient Type identifies the type of organization that received the grant,
and the subject focus of the grant
is also included in the record.
Grant Amount provides the dollar amount of the grant, and Year Authorized provides the fiscal year in
which the grant was authorized. Terms in the Types of Support field indicates whether the grant was awarded for a capital
campaign, endowment funds, exhibition, etc. Many grant records also include a brief text
description of the purpose of the grant.
