The Foundation is operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes. Its principal purposes are to foster and encourage an appreciation of the English language, with major emphasis on the spoken language. Priority is given to projects for the improvement of speech and its uses in the areas of public affairs, education, theatre, poetry, debate, and the oral interpretation of literature. A portion of available funds may be devoted to speech remediation and to scientific research relating to speech.
