Elizabeth Bingham BlossomThe William Bingham Foundation was established in 1955 by Elizabeth Bingham Blossom in memory of her brother, William Bingham, II, to continue the philanthropic tradition of the family.

As of December 31, 2007, The William Bingham Foundation had assets (at market value) of approximately $21 million.

Each year, the Foundation chooses a specific focus for new grant requests from organizations with which we do not already have a relationship. For consideration in 2008, the William Bingham Foundation will accept unsolicited proposals only from organizations improving access to health care for low-income breast cancer patients in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, D.C., through public education, diagnosis, treatment, and other means.

Grants are made only to public U.S. charities and range in size depending on program budget and goals. Grants are not made to individuals or for support of activities centered outside the United States. Although there are no additional geographic restrictions, grants often reflect the needs of the communities in which Trustees reside.

The William Bingham Foundation limits capital grants for new construction to projects that seek U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification at least at the Silver level. Grants for renovation are limited to projects that seek LEED certification. The Foundation limits higher education grants to Colleges and Universities that have signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment.

Please visit the Foundation Center for resources on proposal writing and to learn about other grantmakers and their funding interests.
