Allegheny County Health Department Dental Sealant Program $7,000
for 3rd year
Improve the oral health of 750 high-risk second graders through an award-wining dental sealant and dental health education program in seven selected South Pittsburgh elementary schools over a three-year period.
Habitat for Youth Education/Caring Habits $12,000
for 3rd year
Instill positive caring behavioral health patterns and increase academic performance for grades 4-8 at Prospect Elementary /Middle School through use of Caring Habits model and use site as part of controlled evaluation study of the program.
Junior Achievement $10,500
for 2nd year
Increase understanding of work and the economy, the value of education and critical thinking skills for South Pittsburgh students through expansion of Junior Achievement programs in local schools.
Lutheran Service Society $31,000
for 2nd year
Improve the nutritional status of a high-risk population by offering nutritional assessments and intervention programs to over 100 seniors identified through Meals on Wheels programs and nutritional education to seniors at local senior center food programs.
Mother to Son Program /Small Seeds, Inc. $35,000
for 2nd year
Assist single, African American mothers with sons ages 9-13 to strengthen their families through weekly support groups and ongoing case management at local site.
Mount Washington CDC $18,500
for 2nd year
Increase effectiveness in meeting the health/human service needs of Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights residents through increased capacity of CDC to identify and coordinate programs and services.
Nazareth Housing Services $29,600
for 2nd year
Assist low-income seniors to age in place by addressing critical home repair needs and provide home ownership education for low-income families through local office in South Pittsburgh.
Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April Pittsburgh $24,000
for 2nd year
Expand critical home repair program to Mount Washington seniors and to Carrick area while maintaining South Pittsburgh focus as part of local coalition for housing services.
Ursuline Services $58,000
for 2nd year
Increase awareness and prevention of elder abuse and neglect, which is at high rate in South Pittsburgh communities through joint project with Area Agency on Aging to add focused protective services and outreach capabilities.
YouthWorks $37,500
for 2nd year
Provide year-round employment, intervention and training opportunities to local at-risk teens and young adults through community sites to develop skills and reduce violence.
