Holds 2007 Annual Meeting

The Birmingham Foundation held its annual meeting on Tuesday, October 2nd in its new office suite at the Brashear Center at 2005 Sarah Street, 2nd Floor, Pittsburgh on the South Side.

At the annual meeting, the Board of Directors elected the following new slate of officers: Chairman, Terrence L. Wirginis; Vice Chairman, Grants, Mihai Marcu; Vice Chairman, Grants, Carey A. Harris; Secretary, Mark S. Bibro; Treasurer, H. Don Gordon; Chairman Emeritus, Floyd R.Ganassi; and Chairman Emeritus, Daniel A.Goetz.

The retiring Chairman Floyd Ganassi was recognized for his great contributions and leadership of the Foundation over the last four years overseeing the distribution of nearly $1 million dollars in grants each year to organizations promoting improved health and wellness in the South Pittsburgh Community.

Mr. Ganassi, a founding member of the Birmingham Foundation, was also recognized for his tireless efforts involving the move of the Foundation offices from South Side Hospital to the Brashear Center. He was very involved in negotiating the agreement for the sale of South Side Hospital to UPMC in 1996 that provided the capital to fund the Birmingham Foundation’s work. Mr. Ganassi will be Chairman Emeritus and will remain a director of the Foundation.

The newly elected Chairman, Terrence Wirginis, President of the Gateway Clipper Fleet, and newly elected Vice Chairman, Mihai Marcu of IKM, are both founding member of the Birmingham Foundation. Mr. Wirginis and Mr. Marcu echoed the sentiments of the rest of the Board of Directors, stating “Without Mr. Ganassi’s vision and leadership there would be no Birmingham Foundation. Over the past 10 years, the South Pittsburgh community has benefited from Mr. Ganassi’s tireless efforts to bring forth grants, information and partnerships to the area. We will strive to continue these endeavors in the future.”
