Grant Application Procedures

General Guidelines

  • The Foundation does NOT make grants to individuals.
  • Only non-profit 501(c)3 organizations are eligible to receive grants.
  • The Brush Foundation does NOT accept unsolicited proposals. Interested organizations may submit Letters of Interest (see below) and the board will respond with a request for a full proposal if interested.
  • The majority of grants awarded are in the $5,000 – $25,000 range.

The procedures below are for Project Grants.
Core grant recipients are determined by invitation only.
Unsolicited requests for core grants will not be considered for funding.

Deadlines
An interested organization may submit a Letter of Interest detailing a project for funding consideration. The board will respond to selected organizations with a request for a full proposal. Organizations should note that the complete process for letter of interest, solicitation of proposal and announcement of award recipients takes approximately five months.

The next deadline for Letters of Interest will be July 2, 2012.
The primary funding interest area for the 2012 grants remains
projects with a public policy or advocacy focus.

These deadlines coincide with board meetings held in early May and early November, respectively. Please note that there may be years in which there is no November meeting. Organizations should contact the Foundation office to confirm the current deadline.

Organizations selected to submit full proposals will be notified within six weeks of the proposal deadline date. Organizations selected for funding will be notified approximately seven weeks after submitting their proposal. Specific dates will be provided with the request for a proposal.

Letters of interest and related materials should be submitted electronically to brushfoundation@hotmail.com.

Application Process
Organizations who believe their objectives are consistent with the Brush Foundation’s mission and focus and program priorities are invited to submit a Letter of Interest to the foundation.

Organizations outside the US are required to provide information on the US-based organization that will serve as their fiscal agent. Refer to Requirements for International Grant Applicants for a detailed definition of qualifying, non-US organizations.

You must use the Letter of Interest form. In addition to the form, you may submit ONE additional page (no smaller than 10 point font) to describe the problem being addressed, how this issue fits with your organization’s mission and goals, the specific strategies and activities to address the problem, and the anticipated direct outcome of these activities.

Organizations with multiple sites are welcome to apply for funding, however each organization must limit their submissions to one letter of interest per funding cycle.

Letters exceeding the page limit will not be considered.

Letters are reviewed and scored by the Screening Committee of the Board. Scoring is based on how well they fit the Mission, funding priorities, and program interests and those letters with the highest scores are invited to submit a full proposal.
