BRONX PREPARATORY CHARTER SCHOOL

$35,000 for salary support for the Middle School Principal who oversees the educational program for the middle school grades, and provides professional development to ensure that the teachers and students continue to grow. Bronx Prep is a college preparatory school in the South Bronx which will serve 700 students in grades 5-12 when they reach full capacity in 2011. Its mission is to prepare underserved middle and high school students for further education, civic involvement and lifelong success through a structured, caring environment of high academic expectations.

BROOKLYN BUREAU OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
Brooklyn, NY
$20,000 to help support an Advocate Counselor position at the Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Development, a new transfer high school that will help over-age, under-credited Brooklyn youth ages 16-21 have a successful school experience. The Advocate Counselor will provide one-on-one mentoring, advocacy, and support to students to help them stay connected to school and on track to graduating with a Regents Diploma. The goal is to prepare these students to make a successful transition to the world of work, college, and independent living.

THE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU (now BRONXWORKS)
Bronx, NY
$30,000 to support the Center for Achieving Future Education (CAFÉ), a program that provides individual counseling and case management assistance to help young people and families with the transition from middle school to high school and from high school to college. CAFÉ assists middle school students by providing information about various high schools and the high school selection process, and help with the completion of the high school application. CAFÉ assists high school students by providing information about all aspects of the college admissions process, including college selection, application procedures, admissions criteria, the PSATs and SATs, and financial aid.

THE EAGLE ACADEMY FOUNDATION
New York, NY
$40,000 to provide salary support for the newly created staff position of President, responsible for the replication of the Eagle Academy, the ongoing success of existing schools, and ensuring that all initiatives support and advance the mission of meeting the needs of underserved young men in urban areas. There are currently 2 Eagle Academy schools - the first in the South Bronx serving grades 9-12 which graduated its first class in June 2008, and the second which opened in the fall of 2008 in the Ocean Hill/Brownsville section of Brooklyn, which at full enrollment will serve grades 6-12.

FRANCISCAN COMMUNITY CENTER
New York, NY
$25,000 for additional staffing for the expansion of their Franciscan Tutorial Program, making it mandatory for all youth members. The tutorial program offers remedial classes in math, reading, grammar and composition, test-preparation and supervised homework. They will also, for the first time, offer an academic component for high school students including homework assistance, PSAT/SAT preparation classes, and monthly life skills workshops on topics such as career development, college awareness, and financial responsibility. The Center serves Manhattan's Upper West Side community.

iMENTOR
New York, NY
$25,000 to provide support for 30 new mentor-mentee pairs at the Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports in the South Bronx, supporting juniors as they embark on two-year relationships with mentors. iMentor improves the lives of young people from underserved communities through innovative, technology-based approaches to youth mentoring and education. iMentor matches young people one-on-one with volunteer adult mentors, offering them a chance to develop their literacy and technology skills and connect to valuable career and educational opportunities.

New Brunswick, New Jersey
$30,000 to support the implementation of the Newark Extended Learning Time ("ELT") Institute which will provide training and professional development opportunities for around 350 afterschool program staff in Newark. The Institute will bring together afterschool and "traditional school day" educators and administrators to focus on context, issues and challenges specific to the Newark community. Trainings will be tailored to meet the specific needs of Newark's children, families and schools. New Jersey After 3 is dedicated to expanding and improving afterschool opportunities for New Jersey's children.

NEW YORK CITY OUTWARD BOUND CENTER
Long Island City, NY
$50,000, the final isntallment of a total $100,000 grant commitment over 2 years, to support a Data & Assessment Manager position to oversee their new data management & evaluation system. This system will give them the ability to access and analyze data around multiple dimensions of school success, and enable them to better assess the effectiveness of their services in driving improvement in student and overall school outcomes. NYC Outward Bound is creating a network of innovative, college preparatory Expeditionary Learning public schools in partnership with the NYC Department of Education.

PARTNERSHIP WITH CHILDREN

$30,000 to support the Site Supervisor position of their new Open Heart - Open Mind Program at PS 20 in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island. They place teams of social workers on-site in New York City public elementary and middle schools on a full-time basis to support the social and emotional development of inner city children at risk for academic failure. They perform a vital role in supporting the whole school community, improving school climate and providing essential full classroom, individual and family, and small group intervention counseling and support.

SPONSORS FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY ("SEO")
New York, NY
$40,000 to provide salary support for a Program Manager/Faculty staff position responsible for managing a cohort of students enrolled in the SEO Scholars Program. This intensive out-of-school academic enrichment program helps motivated 9th through 12th grade students from NYC public high schools gain admission and succeed at competitive colleges. They are implementing a four-year pilot Achievement Gap Initiative to significantly increase time on academic tasks in an effort to improve outcomes for their students.

$40,000 to support the salary of a Director of Alumni Affairs for the Newark Region, a position that is central to their ability to achieve their goal of having 20 alumni school leaders in the northern New Jersey region by 2010. The School Leadership Initiative seeks to clarify and accelerate the path to school leadership for qualified alumni. To build a strong alumni pool, they identify alumni interested in school leadership positions, help those alumni build their general leadership experience and skill, and match them with opportunities that lead most directly into actual school leadership positions.

$40,000 for continued salary support for the Manager of Web Initiatives position responsible for the development and presentation of program content on the website, creating a user-friendly and marketable platform that integrates professional development support into their online curriculum. They support their network of educators with a research-based, field-tested methodology for teaching reading comprehension for grades K-6, customized teacher training, and periodic student assessments and teacher evaluation in support of high-needs schools.
