Current Program Areas:
  • National Palliative Care Research Center (NPCRC), Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York, New York. For further information visit www.npcrc.org.
  • Additional limited funding for advancing the field of palliative care.
  • The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins Medical School. For further information visit www.alscenter.org.
  • Literacy enrichment programs for New York City public school children, focusing on 1) arts education and 2) professional development for teachers in collaboration with Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Please note that the Kornfeld Foundation is no longer accepting proposals for after-school programs.

Please note that for 2009 the Foundation will renew support for current grantees and programs but, given the economic climate, will be unlikely to consider adding new grantees to its roster.

Strategy:
In 2006, the Kornfeld Foundation determined that its strategy going forward would be to make fewer, larger grants that would launch important new initiatives in its fields of interest. It is felt that such support is a very effective way to have long-term sustainable impact and to build partnerships with other funders.
