AREAS OF INTEREST - Community and Environment
The Trusts are committed to protecting the historic and environmental heritage of the Virginia Piedmont through land conservation combined with enlightened planning, transportation, agriculture and historic preservation policies. The program focuses on activities in Prince William, Loudoun, and Fauquier counties, but other areas of the Piedmont also are included, as is state-level policy advocacy and education. Grants are given for projects and programs that have a direct benefit to the long-term sustainability of the Piedmont region.
Grants may be requested for general operating support, implementation of new initiatives or expansion of existing programs.
Protect the Piedmont Sample Grants
The Trusts fund initiatives that promote informed dialogue, planning, and coordination across the multiple jurisdictions in the Washington metropolitan region on land use and transportation policy. The Trusts recognize that housing and workforce development policies are closely related and fund activities that take a holistic approach including these topics. We give priority to projects that focus on achieving regional equity considering both people and place; as well as initiatives that are comprehensive in nature and have multiple sources of funding.
Regional Dialogue Sample Grants
The Trusts support organizations and programs designed to facilitate urban policies that protect the region's significant environmental assets. These programs include promoting transit-oriented development, green buildings and sustainable habitats, connected parks and green spaces, as well as restoration and protection programs for the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. The Trusts look for projects that are strategic in nature and oriented toward policy change.
