$10,800 to continue the publication and distribution of a bimonthly multilingual newsletter for the California Child Development Corps, which is available online and as a print section in the Children’s Advocate newsmagazine.

Arts and Literacy in Children’s Education (ALICE)

$10,000 for the Ancestor Project, in which professional artists guide K-3 students to record their elders’ oral histories and create and perform a theatre piece about their cultural heritage.

Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement (BAHIA, Inc.)
Berkeley
$2,500 to partner with the Berkeley Rotary to replace the toddler play structure at Centro VIDA bilingual preschool.

Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN)
Oakland
$7,500 for the Oakland Parent Engagement Project, which provides leadership development and collective action opportunities for low-income immigrant parents in Oakland’s Lower San Antonio neighborhood who wish to improve education of their young children.

Berkeley Chess School
Berkeley
$4,300 for the third year of the First Moves Program at J.O. Ford Elementary School in Richmond, which teaches chess to Spanish bilingual and English-speaking primary grade students.

Berkeley-Albany YMCA
Berkeley
$5,000 for the Birth to 5 Action Team of the Berkeley Citywide Collaborative to coordinate mental health and special needs resources and services for young children who attend licensed child care in Albany, Berkeley, and Emeryville.

Child Care Law Center
San Francisco
$5,000 to support the annual Child Care Work Group, which offers child care providers, parents, and child advocates the opportunity to work with key legislative staff to discuss state policy and budget issues that impact the child care field.

Early Childhood Funders

$5,000 to CIF of the San Francisco Foundation for staffing and resource support for Early Childhood Funders in 2007. Early Childhood Funders is an informal association of Bay Area foundations, public funders, and private donors who seek to enhance grantmaking in the early childhood field.

Family Emergency Shelter Coalition
Hayward
$5,000 to pilot the Good Night Program for homeless young children who reside in FESCO’s shelter and transitional housing.

$1,000 in continued support for outreach to East Bay grassroots grantseekers.

Jewish Coalition for Literacy

$5,000 for the Literacy Workshop Series, specialized training for literacy tutors and parents to build the literacy skills of low-income primary grade students in East Bay schools.

Marilyn Avenue Elementary School
Livermore
$6,000 to the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District to bring the Raising A Reader early literacy program to the Road Runnerettes Spanish bilingual evening preschool and parent education program at Marilyn Avenue Elementary School.

Visual Arts/Language Arts (VALA)
Berkeley
$7,500 to the Tides Center to continue the work of Visual Arts/Language Arts (VALA) in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. VALA brings local visual and performing artists into preschool classrooms in Richmond and San Pablo to work with teachers and parents to provide multicultural creative arts and early literacy experiences.

World Arts West
San Francisco
$6,000 to provide classroom visits, admission fees, and transportation for low-income Alameda County K-3 students to attend 2007 performances of People Like Me, an interactive theatrical presentation of world music and dance.
