Turrell Fund
A Foundation Serving Children

About the Turrell Fund

The Turrell Fund was founded in 1935 by Herbert and Margaret Turrell. Its principal interest lies in support of organizations that help youth, with special emphasis on the needy youngster. The first priority area is direct services to children. Capital requests are considered, but are of secondary priority.

Geographically, the Fund supports organizations located in the States of New Jersey and Vermont, serving the children and youth of these States. It has made grants in the past to organizations outside these areas and continues with a few at the present time, but the growing demands in the preferred areas make it necessary to restrict consideration of new grants to New Jersey and Vermont. In New Jersey, agencies serving children in the counties of Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union will be considered.

Organizations that meet these geographical requirements and provide direct services for children and youth are eligible to apply for Turrell Fund grants. Our purpose is to support activities that will contribute to the development of young persons from families that could not afford these services without help. These activities may be educational, vocational, recreational and corrective; they may be programs to provide care and nurture the child. Programs to make such activities available to children with special needs are also eligible.

The Fund does not encourage requests for support of cultural activities, and we exclude from our consideration advocacy work, endowment funds, grants to individuals, and most hospital work and health care services.

A summary of total grants distributed from the Foundation's inception in 1935 through 2008 is available for review.
