May Is Funding for Education Month at the Foundation Center

Free Resources and Special Events for Nonprofits, Scholarship Seekers

New York, NY — May 3, 2010. This May, the Foundation Center, a national nonprofit with locations around the country, is holding Funding for Education Month. It will offer special programs specifically for those in the education arena: free events, classes, and online resources designed to help nonprofits and individuals alike become more effective grantseekers and find new funding prospects.

The "Focus on Funding for Education" area of the Center's web site will feature frequently updated information on programs, news, and research related to education funding — a "one-stop shop" of free, easily accessible information including events, classes, webinars, and podcasts. In addition, interactive maps display the geographic distribution of both private foundation and ARRA funding for education.

Special events will include:

  • Cleveland, May 12: Meet the Scholarship Givers featuring representatives from The Cleveland Foundation and the United Negro College Fund
  • San Francisco, May 18: Beyond the Bake Sale: What's the Recipe for Real Fundraising at Your Education Institution?
  • Atlanta, May 19: Funding for K-12 Education with Danny Shoy, senior program officer, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, and Lizzy Smith, grants officer, Robert W. Woodruff Foundation
  • Washington, DC, May 19: Scholarships and Exchange Programs with the Institute of International Education (IIE) presented by staff members of IIE
  • Webinar, May 24: Elementary/Secondary Education and Reform: The Role of Foundations in a Time of Change and Opportunity, presented by Steven Lawrence, director of research, the Foundation Center
  • New York City, May 25: Investments in Expanded Learning Time: A Dialog with Lucy N. Friedman, president of the After-School Corporation
