Wise Decision-Making in Uncertain Times

New management guide helps nonprofits
meet challenges of post-9/11 world

New York, NY — November 7, 2006. The Foundation Center and the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise have teamed up to produce Wise Decision-Making in Uncertain Times: Using Nonprofit Resources Effectively, to help nonprofits steer their organizations through profound transformations in programs, operations, fund development, and financing, within a context of economic downturns and reduced government funding.

A follow-up to the 2003 Effective Economic Decision-making by Nonprofit Organizations, also edited by Dennis R. Young, this new volume highlights the critical challenges of fiscal sustainability and encourages nonprofits to take a more expansive approach to financing. A team of experts evaluates key issues including entrepreneurship, competition, risk management, strategic investment, public support, and holistic grantmaking.

"Coping with uncertainty and change has become a constant of nonprofit organizational life," said Dr. Young. "In this book, we offer nonprofit leaders new ways to think about and address this challenge by managing, developing, and deploying their resources in more effective, creative, and strategic ways."
