"The Successful Ask: Winning the Gift," Part 1
Fundraising expert William Sturtevant elucidates techniques for major gift solicitation. He provides his determinants of success, which include who makes the ask, for what, and how much. He also reveals that the location of the solicitation is important, and talks about the pitfalls that can occur when the setting is a restaurant. He describes at length some considerations for structuring the solicitation team, the importance of training and rehearsal for solicitors, and welcoming objections by the prospective donor. |

"The 12 Steps to Sponsorship Sales Success"
Sponsorship expert Sylvia Allen presents a step-by-step program for researching, initiating, and completing sponsorship arrangements. She defines sponsorship as “an investment, in cash or in kind, in return for access to exploitable business potential associated with an event or highly publicized entity.” After explaining current trends in marketing, she outlines the 12 steps, which include taking inventory of assets, making initial contact with a company, through post-event reports. |

"Relational Fundraising: Types and Motivation of Donors"
Robert Thompson categorizes donors (as habitual, emotional or strategic) and gives extensive profiles of how they typically react to fundraising requests. He also identifies primary motivating factors and stresses the importance of matching the funding request (such as capital campaign, planned giving or annual campaign) to the type and motivation of the donor.
