Fiscal Sponsorship: An Excellent Beginning for Emerging Nonprofits
New York
Tuesday, November 24, 2009
1:15-2:30 pm
Free Admission
Presented by the Foundation Center in collaboration with FJC.
With over 1.5 million nonprofits already registered with the IRS, forming a new one and standing out from the crowd can be a challenge. Like many new small businesses, many nonprofits don’t make it after just a short time of operating. Yet tapping into your passion for a cause and starting a nonprofit organization is among the most rewarding challenges that one can undertake. Doing it right from the beginning can mean the difference between success and failure.
This workshop reviews the advantages and disadvantages of using fiscal sponsorship as your first step. The workshop leaders manage one of the country’s leading fiscal sponsorship programs and have spoken about the program at numerous events. The workshop also explores the benefits of being tax exempt and why fiscal sponsorship can get you there quicker while you go through the formal process of recognition by the IRS. The workshop will explain what an application for fiscal sponsorship might look like and, most important, what fiscal sponsorship is and what it is not.
You're welcome to bring your lunch, and we will serve refreshments.
