Museum of Chinese in America - Director of Individual Giving
The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), an educational and cultural institution that presents the living history, heritage, culture and diverse experiences of Chinese Americans through exhibitions, educational services and public programs, seeks Director of Individual Giving. The Director of Individual Giving, a newly created position, will work closely with the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director, and the Deputy Director of External Affairs and serve as the lead development and fundraising officer responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts of $5K and up. S/he will be part of a team to build MOCA’s resources, image, and stature; develop sustained relationships with donors and funders; and play an important role in growing the Museum’s individual giving program (including major gifts) for long-term sustainability.
Responsibilities include: managing relationships with current donors; identifying prospects; initiating contacts with potential major gift donors; developing appropriate cultivation strategies; moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; making direct solicitations through face-to-face solicitation; maintaining stewardship contacts and donor relations; providing leadership and staff service to the Board of Trustees and its Executive and Development Committees in carrying out their fundraising responsibilities. Work with Executive Director to develop, manage, and execute detailed development plans for each Trustee; manage special projects, particularly those with strong connections to Board members and major donors; plan a broad range of cultivation and special events for major donors; participate in strategic planning for the institution with focus on growing the individual donor base; and expand MOCA’s fundraising program to become more nationally and internationally focused.
The Director of Individual Giving must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the four to six-figure range through face-to-face solicitation. S/he must have a positive, warm attitude; be a strategic and creative thinker who successfully leverages the Museum's unique accomplishments and assets, while creating donor-centric solicitation strategies; have experience in the development and management of special events; have strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Qualifications for successful candidate include a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four+ years of development experience, with emphasis on individual giving. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Understanding and or familiarity with museums or cultural institutions. Bilingual fluency in Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) and English a plus.
