Respiratory Health Association - Director of Development
Overview: Respiratory Health Association is seeking a Director of Development to manage the Association’s fundraising activities including, but not limited to, cultivation and stewardship of major and planned gifts from individual supporters, execution of fundraising appeals by mail and email, development and stewardship of corporate and foundation relations, and solicitation of grants and sponsorships from a range of private and government sources. Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
Reports To: President and Chief Executive Officer
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and manage a portfolio of 50-100 “top prospects”; dedicate time to meetings with key donors and prospects to increase the number of donors, gift size, and planned gift commitments.
- Oversee design and implementation of semi-annual mail appeals and e-appeals; conduct ongoing analysis of appeal performance; cultivate relationships with select annual fund donors.
- Identify and oversee strategic applications for public and privately funded grants and sponsorships; participate in monthly grants team meetings; represent the association to external audiences including foundations and corporations, among others.
- Collaborate with special events and programs departments, as well as with the CEO and Board of Directors, to reach and engage participants/donors (individuals, companies, etc.) across a broad spectrum of activities supporting the association.
- Oversee administrative functions of the development team, including: gift processing and acknowledgements, database queries and reports, development of the association’s annual report, etc.
- Supervise a four-person department (includes Manager, Individual Giving; Manager, Grants and Sponsorships; and Coordinator, Development and Administration).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years relevant work experience in the nonprofit sector (master’s degree or equivalent preferred)
- Track record of success in individual giving and grant-writing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills
- Ability to travel to meetings throughout metropolitan Chicago by car
- Ability to prioritize, perform, delegate and report upon multiple tasks
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team a must; supervisory experience a plus
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
