American Jewish Committee - Senior Development Director

The Senior Development Director will help broaden AJC’s base of support and help build and strengthen our general and restricted fundraising campaigns. He/she will work as part of the Resource Development team and will be responsible for raising approximately $3 million annually through a combination of event-based fundraising and the active engagement of new and existing donors in the work of AJC.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • In cooperation with AJC’s leadership, identify and help recruit appropriate honorees around which we can build fundraising events. Drive the fundraising strategy, and oversee all aspects and details of those events. Expose fundraising audiences to relevant aspects of AJC’s work.
  • Develop long-term fundraising opportunities for AJC by building relationships with donors in specific industries and engaging them in the work of AJC, as appropriate.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit annual donors at all levels.
  • Work closely with lay leaders in optimizing fundraising results
  • Work closely with other members of the Resource Development Department to expand and broaden AJC’s base of annual support, and strengthen our overall development program.
  • Liaise with members of our marketing, communications and graphic design teams to ensure disciplined and clear messaging at all fundraising events and meetings.
  • Perform other job related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • At least seven years professional experience in fundraising with successful track record required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and comfort with all aspects of fundraising, including event-based fundraising, major gifts, one-on-one solicitation, cultivation, prospect research.
  • Ability to work with diverse organizational leadership to build consensus around fundraising strategies and tactics
  • A collaborative approach to working with internal and external colleagues to maximize the effectiveness of projects and programs; a team player
  • Ability to make tough decisions and follow through on agreed upon initiatives, work collaboratively yet firmly when needed
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to manage data and develop, implement and oversee budgets
  • A demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and values
  • Passion for the mission of AJC
  • Working knowledge of fundraising databases. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
