Arnold P. Gold Foundation - Director of Programs

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation ( www.humanism-in-medicine.org ), founded in 1988, in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, is a public 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to humanize medicine by restoring the balance between the cutting edge science of medicine and compassionate, patient-centered care; and, thereby, elevate both. With the recent hiring of a new President and CEO, the foundation is entering a period of new growth and is seeking a highly motivated professional to manage and direct our strategic programs and grants. The candidate must have strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills.

The DP manages the Foundation’s program and grant portfolios, including conceptualizing, planning, delivering, and supervising program activities. Working closely with the CEO and the COO, the DP’s core areas of responsibility are:

Responsibilities

Program Planning and Management

  • Plan the delivery of the overall program portfolio and its activities in accordance with the Foundation’s mission and goals;
  • Design and undertake new program initiatives to advance the strategic direction of the Foundation;
  • Develop an annual program budget and operating plan;
  • Ensure that the program/grants operate within the approved budget and that all financial and program/grant records are up to date;
  • Design protocols for all program/grants;
  • In conjunction with the Gold Research Institute, develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of all APGF programs and identify areas for improvement;
  • Monitor program activities on a bi-monthly basis and prepare analysis and reports on program status for the executive staff, the board-level Program Committee and the Board of Trustees;
  • Supervise the Program Associate in supporting the overall program and grants management functions;
  • Staff the Program Committee and Grants Review Committee;
  • Review grant proposals and make funding recommendations;
  • Liaison to grantees and grant seekers; and
  • Oversee grantees adherence to Foundation grant requirements.

Resource Development and Oversight

  • Craft content for funding proposals in concert with the development department to obtain financial resources for program initiatives;
  • Ensure Foundation adheres to grantor requirements and prepare all financial reports and supporting documentation as required by outside funders;

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the overall strategic planning of the foundation;
  • Assist the COO in fiscal reporting, including quarterly and annual foundation budgets and audit preparation;
  • Represent APGF at appropriate external professional meetings, conferences and events.
  • Prepare articles for internal and external publication to provide information about effective APGF program grant projects.

Qualifications

  • College degree required, masters or equivalent experience preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years program management experience;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, reasoning, and decision-making abilities;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including solid presentation abilities;
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills that lead to productive relationships with grantees, funders, medical personnel, colleagues and associates;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, familiar with database management and generally knowledgeable of modern systems of information;
  • Knowledge of budget process; and
  • Ability to travel as needed.
