Research and Digital Collections Assistant (Short-Term Temp.)

Our research department analyzes and interprets the wealth of data we collect on foundations and their giving to fulfill our core mission of advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. Stakeholders in the field and the broader public rely on our research to learn about current trends and gain insights into patterns of foundation activity over time. Our primary research publication is our annual Foundation Today Series, comprised of three reports: Foundation Giving Trends, Foundation Growth and Giving Estimates, and Foundation Yearbook.

RESEARCH & DIGITAL COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT (short-term temporary)

Reports to: Director of Knowledge Management Systems

Job summary: Excellent opportunity to learn about the nonprofit sector and gain professional experience in digital archiving, cataloguing and data maintenance. Responsible for assisting in building and maintaining a digital research collection.

Responsibilities:

• Daily addition of research reports to IssueLab, including the maintenance of the publisher CRM system and copyright permissions.
• Regular, persistent bad-link checking and corrections.
• Research and update funder data associated with research reports.
• Track down and secure missing files for research listings.
• Check and clean up OAI data for regular syncs with WorldCat and other data partners.
• Prepare tweets related to new additions of research.
• Special projects/initiatives including:
• Assistance with archiving projects as needed.
• Help with extracting key findings from research reports.
• Identify and register with OAI-compliant data harvesters (eg., openDOAR, ROAR)
• Help compile research for special collections.

Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Requirements: Strong data processing and online research skills. Must be accurate, focused, detail-oriented, and deadline-oriented. Skilled in using standard computer/online applications, especially Google spreadsheets and Adobe Acrobat. Skilled in library and Internet research.

Hours: 17 hrs, between Monday to Friday, 9-5.

Salary: $12.00 per hour
