Harlem Children’s Zone - Development Officer

Harlem Children’s Zone is seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the agency’s dynamic and fast-paced Development Department. We are in search of a full-time Development Officer, responsible for foundation, government, and corporate fundraising. This high profile role works closely with Senior Staff, and reports directly to the Director of Foundations and Government.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and government donors
  • Steward current relationships and identify and approach new prospects for cultivation and solicitation
  • Write compelling grant proposals and timely reports to secure new commitments and renewals
  • Secure meetings and coordinate site visits with donors and prospects to update them on HCZ’s activities
  • Work closely with the Senior Staff, Program Directors, and Administration to gather the necessary information to ensure proposals and reports are comprehensive a compelling
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of our network of comprehensive programs to fully understand the scope and breadth of our work, when describing to funders
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3-5 years foundation and government fundraising experience required; New York fundraising, including City and State contracting, a plus
  • Impeccable writing skills with a particular strength, and demonstrated ability, writing compelling public and private grant proposals
  • Proven track record in prospect management and charitable foundation solicitation
  • In depth experience working with Raiser’s Edge
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under deadlines
  • Outstanding oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
