Give2Asia, NGOsource Collaborate to Enhance Philanthropy to Asia

Give2Asia, NGOsource Collaborate to Enhance Philanthropy to Asia

San Francisco-based Give2Asia and NGOsource, a project of the Council on Foundations and TechSoup Global, have announced a collaboration designed to make giving to projects and organizations in Asia easier.

Currently, Give2Asia, a nonprofit social enterprise that works to make international grantmaking safe and effective, makes grants solely based on expenditure responsibility, which requires record-keeping and reporting on the part of the grantee and ensures that grant funds are used for a designated charitable purpose. By adding equivalency determinations conducted by NGOsource to its portfolio of grantmaking services, Give2Asia will simplify the task for U.S.-based donors and foundations of evaluating whether a non-U.S. organization is equivalent to a U.S. public charity. The effort also will leverage NGOsource's legal expertise and Give2Asia's knowledge of the unique needs of the social sector in Asia to educate donors.

NGOsource will be launched in early 2013 after any changes that arise from the public comment period on recent federal rule changes designed to make international grantmaking easier and less redundant are incorporated into the project.

"As U.S. donors increase their giving to Asia, our goal is to increase the quality of grantmaking," said Birger Stamperdahl, director of marketing and partnerships at Give2Asia. "By collaborating with NGOsource, we can provide the most reliable and comprehensive services for making grants to Asia. NGOsource will ensure compliance with the tax rules and regulations that govern equivalency determination."
