California
The San Francisco Foundation has appointed Mark Cloutier as its program director for public policy, civic engagement, and community health and Francesca Vietor as its program officer for the environment.
Illinois
The Two Rivers YMCA has announced a grant of $3,500 from the Rock Island Community Foundation to help support the Y-Solutions program at three Rock Island schools. The mentoring program aims to help at-risk youth develop positive goals for the future.
The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation has received $500,000 from the Community Chest of Oak Park, Oakpark.com reports. Since 1991, the community chest has been part of the local United Way and has not actively fund-raised since 2003. The gift will be counted toward the foundation's campaign to raise $2 million by the end of the month;, with the Community Chest's contribution, the campaign has reached the $1.9 million mark. If the foundation meets its goal, the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin has pledged to match the total.
Kansas
The Central Kansas Community Foundation - Butler County in El Dorado has announced that it is changing its name from the Community Foundation of Greater Butler County, the Augusta Gazette reports. Established in 2001, the foundation has been affiliated with the Newton-based Central Kansas Community Foundation since 2010.
Massachusetts
The Yarmouthport-based Cape Cod Foundation has announced that its Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals is accepting grant applications until 5:00 p.m. on November 1. Established in 2009, the fund will award up to $35,000 to organizations working to improve animal protection and welfare, with a preference for medical treatment, no-kill shelters, spaying and neutering of domestic animals, prevention of cruelty to animals, and public education and awareness on issues affecting animals and their welfare.
Nebraska
The Omaha Foundation has announced that it will supplement the initial contribution of new donors who open a charitable account with the foundation through December 15 by 10 percent, up to $1,000. The gifts will be matched by donors Carl Mammel and Bill March.
New York
In recognition of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Brooklyn Community Foundation will present a discussion with author Julie Salamon about her book Rambam's Ladder: A Meditation on Generosity and Why It's Necessary to Give, the Brooklyn Eagle reports. The program will be the first in a new discussion series, "Why Do We Do Good?," sponsored by the foundation.
