NBCUniversal Announces $1.2 Million in Grants

NBCUniversal Announces $1.2 Million in Grants

The NBCUniversal Foundation has announced grants totaling $1.2 million to nonprofits across the country working in the areas of arts and media, civic engagement, community development, education, environment, jobs and economic empowerment, and technology.

The grants were awarded as part of the foundation's 21st Century Solutions initiative, which was launched in June to support innovative community-based programs in ten markets — New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco, South Florida, San Diego, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C. — served by NBC-owned stations. Inaugural grants awarded through the program include $25,000 to First Person Arts, a nonprofit in Philadelphia that works with students to address social issues; $50,000 to Opportunity Fund, a not-for-profit social enterprise in the Bay Area that helps low-income working families develop a lifelong savings habit; and $50,000 to Job Path, a New York City-based nonprofit that works with local employers to expand job opportunities for young people with disabilities. One winning organization and two runners-up were awarded grants in each regional market.

"There are so many nonprofit organizations moving our communities forward through innovative thinking and progressive approaches," said Beth Colleton, senior vice president for corporate social responsibility at NBCUniversal. "That's why we focused our philanthropic efforts on social innovation. I am so pleased with the results of our investments, which will impact so many across the country."
