Newman's Own Foundation Awards Nearly $1 Million for Sandy Relief
The Newman's Own Foundation, has announced $950,000 in grants to eleven organizations working to help people and communities affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Grants will support both short and long-term recovery efforts in the tri-state area. In New York, the foundation awarded grants to the Brooklyn Community Foundation, City Harvest, the Food Bank for New York City, the New York Community Trust, and Project Hospitality.
Nonprofit service providers in Connecticut receiving grants include the Connecticut Food Bank and Person-to-Person. In addition, the foundation awarded grants to three organizations in New Jersey: the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Community Foundation of New Jersey, and the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
"We are saddened by the hardship felt by so many people along the East Coast in the wake of Hurricane Sandy," said foundation president and CEO Robert Forrester. "We are grateful to the nonprofits in the region that are extending themselves to serve those in need throughout this difficult time."
