Coca-Cola Awards $9.9 Million in 2012 to Healthy Living Programs

The Coca-Cola Foundation has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling more than $2 million, boosting the total it awarded in 2012 in support of healthy living programs across North America to $9.9 million.

The foundation awarded the bulk of its fourth-quarter grants to community health and fitness programs. Recipients include the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which was awarded $100,000 in support of Project HELP, a program that promotes healthy eating, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles in African-American communities; and the Canadian Institute of Child Health, which received $100,000 to provide information on healthy food choices and physical activity to Inuit families in Canada.

"Choosing to live healthy, balanced lifestyles is one of the most important decisions we can make," said Lori George Billingsley, vice president of community relations at Coca-Cola. "By teaching people how to make good nutrition and fitness choices as part of their daily routine, these organizations are tangibly impacting the health of their communities now and for the future."

In addition, the foundation awarded $200,000 for community, arts, and cultural initiatives; $200,000 in support of education programs; $125,000 for water stewardship activities; $150,000 for economic development opportunities; and $100,000 to benefit diversity and inclusion initiatives.
