Robin Hood Foundation Announces Latest Round of Sandy Relief Grants

Robin Hood Foundation Announces Latest Round of Sandy Relief Grants

The New York City-based Robin Hood Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $2.2 million to nonprofit organizations providing assistance to people and communities affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Using funds raised by the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, the grants increase the total amount distributed by the organization for Sandy relief efforts to more than $20.2 million. To date, the funding has been used to provide individual and emergency assistance; help with housing, including home repairs and renovations, mold remediation, and rental assistance; legal/benefits counseling, including helping people apply for FEMA and other types of services; medical and mental health support; food assistance; job training; and childcare/education programs.

Grants awarded in this funding round include $250,000 to the Child Mind Institute, which has been responding to requests from the New York City Department of Education to deploy clinicians to schools in high-need areas; $150,000 to Circulo de la Hispanidad in Long Beach, New York, to establish an emergency fund for housing needs, hire a job-placement counselor, and repair three properties used to provide temporary housing for homeless families; and $100,000 to HOPES CAP in Hudson County, New Jersey, to help more than two hundred individuals replace furnishings destroyed by Sandy and provide food and transportation assistance.
