Wallace Foundation Awards Grant to Boston Public Schools for Art Program Expansion
The New York City-based Wallace Foundation has announced a $750,000 grant to Boston Public Schools to help develop a long-term sustainability plan for arts programming in schools throughout the system.
Awarded through the foundation's Arts for Young People planning grant program, the grant will enable the system to develop best practices in arts programming and professional development, improve coordination between schools and their arts partners, and conduct ongoing evaluations to assess progress. The grant also will build on the fundraising efforts of Boston-based EdVestors, which is coordinating the three-year BPS Arts Expansion Initiative — an effort that has attracted support from the Hunt Alternatives Fund and the Boston, Barr, Klarman, and Linde Family foundations.
"We're delighted to join our colleagues in supporting promising efforts in Boston dedicated to bringing the arts to every child in the public school system," said Daniel Windham, director of arts at the Wallace Foundation. "This planning grant builds on our current support of efforts to strengthen school leadership and out-of-school time services to surround children with more opportunities for learning and enrichment. Boston has a reputation as being a leader of innovation, and we look forward to working with the city as it develops systems to improve the lives of children."
