The need for volunteers to solicit major gifts is endless and universal. Soliciting Gifts: A Guide for Volunteers is videotape designed to teach volunteers to be comfortable when asking for money. The training tape moves the volunteer through the solicitation process from the planning stage to making the appointment, stating the case, listening to the prospect, and finally asking for the gift. It can be used for group training or be sent to individual solicitors for training at home. It is designed to ease the anxieties of the new solicitor and to refresh the memories of the veteran. Soliciting Major Gifts was created by a committee of experienced directors of development from ADVIS schools. While originally conceived to meet the needs of independent schools, it offers training that is applicable for volunteers, throughout the private non-profit sector.
