Disability Rights Fund Accepting Letters of Interest From Disabled Persons' Organizations in Bangladesh, Peru, and Uganda

Disability Rights Fund Accepting Letters of Interest From Disabled Persons' Organizations in Bangladesh, Peru, and Uganda

The Disability Rights Fund seeks to strengthen the participation of disabled persons' organizations (DPOs) in the advancement of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities at country level in the Global South, Middle East/North Africa, and Eastern Europe/former Soviet Union.

To help achieve the goal that persons with disabilities participate fully in society and enjoy equal rights and opportunities, the fund is accepting applications for the second round of its 2012 "Implementing Our Rights" grant cycle.

Letters of Interest are invited from DPOs in Bangladesh, Peru, and Uganda. (A Request for Proposals for Pacific Island Countries, Ghana, and Nicaragua will be released in July, 2012.)

Applicants can apply as single organizations or partnerships for small grants, or as national DPO-led coalitions for national coalition grants.

Single organizations or partnerships can apply for twelve-month grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 to increase DPO skill in addressing the CRPD through building more inclusive organizations or partnerships, and/or internal capacity building; and to further rights-based advocacy and monitoring through increasing DPO participation in decision-making processes regarding the CRPD at state or local levels, and/or directly addressing implementation of CRPD articles.

National DPO-led coalitions can apply for the first year of twenty-four-month grants ranging from $30,000 to $60,000 ($60,000 to $100,000 over twenty-four months) to develop a national platform to work on production of or follow up to a parallel/alternative report submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities; for production of or follow up to a report submitted to other UN human rights monitoring mechanisms or committees of experts from other human rights treaties; or for passage of specific legislation to accord with the CRPD.

DRF supports projects that demonstrate a clear ability and commitment to contribute to the advancement of the human rights of persons with disabilities. Cross-disability and other partnerships in-country are strongly encouraged, as are projects that address particularly marginalized sectors of the disability community.

Visit the Disability Rights Fund Web site for complete grant guidelines and instructions for submitting a Letter of Interest.
