About the Organization:
Named after the Rubicon River, which symbolizes a life-transforming point of no return, the organization is located in an area of great need and high unemployment. To address poverty and homelessness, Rubicon provides comprehensive services and affordable housing and creates social-purpose businesses. Today, Rubicon employs approximately two hundred people and offers services throughout Contra Costa County and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Current Programs:
Rubicon's Workforce Services program assists job seekers as well as employers in high-growth industries such as health care and biotechnology. Current employer partners include Safeway, AT&T, IKEA, UPS, Federal Express, and Kaiser Permanente. The Housing and Case Management program provides three services: case management, which assists homeless and disabled persons; resource services, which provide housing support and life skills counseling; and permanent supportive housing, which provides subsidized housing with on-site supportive services. The Mental Health Care program features independent living and substance abuse services as well as outpatient psychotherapy, clinical case management, medication support services, and learning disability assessments. Rubicon's Hawkins Center offers legal services that provide representation and assistance to people living with physical and mental disabilities and HIV/AIDS.

Rubicon's site provides links to the Rubicon Bakery and the organization's Landscape Services, both of which provide job training and generate program revenue. Operating for more than ten years, the Rubicon Bakery creates gourmet desserts that are carried by over three hundred stores and restaurants in the Bay Area and will soon be found nationwide. The site also provides links to job opportunities and real life success stories of people who have benefited from Rubicon's services.
Funding:
In addition to revenues generated by its enterprises and rental properties, Rubicon receives support from individuals, government institutions, and foundations.
