Four years ago, Alex Scott, now 8, started making and selling lemonade to raise money for the hospital where she was receiving chemotherapy. Her “lemonade stand” has grown into a national fundraising movement to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
What kind of philanthropic or volunteer work did/do you do?
Alex: I started Alex's Lemonade Stand For Pediatric Cancer. It is now a nationwide movement to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and to encourage community service by other children.

Alex: Alex's Lemonade Stand for Pediatric Cancer, Philadelphia, PA.
What inspired you to get involved?
Alex: The doctors needed help to find cures for childhood cancers.
How did you first get involved? Through school? Your parents? Give us some details.
Alex: I set up a lemonade stand in the front yard.
What is/was the best thing about your experience?
Alex: Helping others.
What was the biggest surprise?
Alex: How many other people have decided to help out.
What new things have you learned as a result of your experience and how have you changed as a result?
Alex: That people are very caring and want to help a good cause.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of getting involved in philanthropy or volunteering?
Alex: Never give up and work hard.
